The Ronan 155 Pro:

Innovative Deck Design: Like the popular Ronan design, this new kayak design features a hard-chined hull. The major difference between the Pro and the original Ronan lies in the length and the application of Pygmy’s patent pending paddle cutouts. These side paddle cutaways were first introduced with the Pinguino 150 Pro. They cutaway the sheer line to allow the paddler a much closer, more efficient paddle stroke without any knuckle banging. Paddlers have enjoyed the cutaways so much that after introducing the Pinguino 155 Pro, it quickly became our most popular kayak. The cutaways give the new Ronan 155 Pro the stability of a 23” beam, but it paddles like a 21” svelte kayak.

A Versatile Design: The Ronan 155 Pro is 15” longer than the original (15’6” vs. 14’3”), with the same raked bow and stern that give the original Ronan its lovely sweeping lines. This longer length is the perfect crossover size for those looking for a fun, maneuverable kayak for playful paddling without sacrificing the storage capacity for some light touring. The new Ronan 155 Pro is an excellent choice for someone who wants both a lightweight day paddler yet hopes to do some light touring without the need for a second kayak.

Comparing Designs: Like the Pinguino 150 Pro the Ronan 155 Pro has a higher, drier rear cockpit height. It is a little less suited to rolling than the original Ronan, but the paddler experiences a drier and more ergonomic ride for exercise, day paddling and touring. The new Ronan 155 Pro and the original Ronan share the same height at the front of the cockpit (11.5”) but the Pro does offer more space around the knees (8.75” vs. 9.9” height). Due to its longer length, the new Ronan Pro offers a little more initial stability than the original. With the Ronan Pro the paddler can choose between two cockpit sizes, the 17”x33” or the smaller 15.8”x33”.

*The transverse Metacenter, in inches, is a measure of a kayak's initial stability. A higher number is more stable. All single kayaks computed with same weight person.
**
Efficient cruising is a function of low frictional drag and low wetted surface. Lower WS means faster (less effort) cruising speeds, here expressed in sq. ft.
***90% of theoretical hull speed (THS) in mph. A boat's theoretical hull speed is a function of square root of its loaded waterline length (LWL). at approximately 80% to 90% of its hull speed a kayak will start to produce a bow wake longer than its LWL and the effort required to continue acceleration rapidly increases
